Job Description


Merkle is looking for a Senior Director to join the Promotions and Loyalty Solutions group’s Strategy and Insights team. The right candidate will join a team of talented and experienced consultants and marketers focused on helping Merkle clients accelerate their level of marketing maturity through innovative, data-driven, and customer-centric programs. This role will also be responsible for managing a team of Strategists responsible for developing campaign strategies and marketing programs.

The Senior Director operates as a key member of our team, helping to ensure that the recommendations we deliver are based on our deep understanding of our client’s business and strategic objectives.  Strategists at Merkle make our clients’ businesses their business and act as both the voice of the client and their consumers. You must have the ability to build strong relationships in order to become a trusted advisor to the client and Merkle team. This role requires you to be analytical as well as creative in your thought process and have the ability to be nimble in your thinking about client problems.  As a key leader inside of a team, you must also demonstrate the capability to get others to believe in the ideas that you present and follow that belief through to execution.

The ideal candidate for this position must have a strong passion for problem solving, and a deep understanding of how businesses, brands and customers interact, with an advanced understanding of the rapidly evolving role that data and technology play in this relationship. Candidates must possess the ability to identify business growth opportunities and develop strategic recommendations to support the growth of client relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and strategic scoping for new customer engagement opportunities
  • Act as a subject matter experience, particularly in the areas of digital marketing, loyalty, promotions, and CRM
  • Continually monitor current marketing trends, new technology solutions, and competitive strategies – and then translate them into new marketing ideas for clients
  • Develop trusted, long-term relationships with key client contacts and executives
  • Ensure meaningful client value is delivered through a mix of best-practice solutions, skills, capabilities, and original thinking
  • Facilitate working sessions and lead development of strategic deliverables for solution designing engagements with clients
  • Collaborate and develop relationships with internal Merkle teams (account management, production, creative, analytics, etc.) and partner agencies to understand the feasibility of cross-channel recommendations/plans
  • Manage team members to deliver strategy projects correctly and on-time
  • ·       Define KPIs to continuously measure, track, and optimize program performance

  • Develop financial models and sensitivity analyses that forecast financial liability, ROI and assess risk for the solution
  • Assess performance and execute focused analysis to measure program results and provide actionable recommendations and insights
  • Translate insights, in close collaboration with client management and analytics teams, into ongoing enhancements, new services, features, and optimizations to strengthen and improve programs
  • Develop strategies and concepts for program overlays and enhancements that meet client objectives and drive the program forward
  • Minimum 12 years of marketing experience with a focus of developing and implementing strategic programs; consulting experience preferred
  • Ability to translate client needs and expectations into innovative, strategic solutions
  • Strong multi-tasking, networking, and time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills including inter-personal, listening, writing and speaking. Experience with adopting problem-solving consulting frameworks and translating data analysis into actionable marketing recommendations and presentations – proficiency in PowerPoint required.
  • Hands-on skills using data and research to drive decisions. Experience performing data analysis; comfortable using Excel, including the ability to create Excel models from scratch
  • Self-starter with high intellectual curiosity, drive, determination, and persuasion skills.
  • You are a lateral and creative thinker with the ability to make complex topics understandable
  • Ability to leverage business experience / acumen to identify new business and marketing opportunities.
  • Deep interest in the digital ecosystem and the ability to demonstrate how digital marketing delivers business growth (i.e. consumer engagement, acquisition, ROI, CPE)
  • Able to operate at senior-most levels of the client organization including ability to engage with and lead the C-suite
  • Passionate about collaboration, open-minded, and experienced in working with people from diverse cultures
  • Problem solving mindset; ability to thrive in ambiguous and fast-moving environments, and in informal, loosely structured and creative work environments.
